Subspecialty Care

Specialized cornea care, close to home in Syracuse.

Specialized care for the cornea — including advanced transplant options when needed.

The cornea is the clear front surface of the eye, and conditions affecting it can significantly impact vision. Our cornea specialists provide medical and surgical care for the full range of corneal disease.

Corneal surgical options

DSAEK

Descemet's Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty — a partial-thickness transplant that replaces only the inner layer of the cornea. Faster recovery than full-thickness transplant.

Standard Corneal Transplant

Full-thickness penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) — the traditional approach when most of the cornea needs to be replaced.

Boston Keratoprosthesis

An artificial corneal implant used when traditional transplants have failed or are unlikely to succeed.

Conditions we treat

  • Keratoconus and corneal ectasia
  • Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy
  • Corneal scarring from infection, injury, or prior surgery
  • Recurrent corneal erosion
  • Corneal infections and keratitis
  • Pterygium and other ocular surface conditions
