What insurance do you accept?
We participate with most major carriers including Medicare, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, MVP Health Care, Fidelis Care, Wellcare, and AARP plans. How long will my first visit take?
Plan for about two hours. That allows time for a comprehensive history, a full exam, and any testing your doctor needs. An initial appointment with a specialist may run longer. More on what to expect →
What should I bring to my appointment?
- Insurance card(s) and photo ID
- Co-pay, if your plan requires one
- Insurance referral, if needed
- Your current glasses, if you wear them
- A complete list of your medications
- A translator or interpreter, if needed
Will my eyes be dilated? Can I drive home?
Many comprehensive exams include dilation, which blurs near vision and increases light sensitivity for a few hours. Most patients can drive afterward, but if it's your first dilation or you're sensitive to light, we recommend bringing a driver and sunglasses. Ask when you schedule and we'll tell you whether your visit will include dilation.
How do I schedule, reschedule, or cancel?
Schedule through the patient portal or call your office — Syracuse (315) 422-4412, Fulton (315) 592-2444. If you can't keep an appointment, please call at least 48 hours ahead; there is a $50 fee for no-shows and late cancellations. If a health issue or emergency comes up, call us — we work with patients case by case.
Do you offer laser vision correction? How much does a consultation cost?
Yes — PRK laser vision correction is performed by Dr. Stephen Spitzer, our fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgeon. The consultation is free: call our Refractive Coordinator at (315) 422-4412 ext. 308. Surgery is FSA and HSA eligible, and financing options are available.
Can I buy glasses or contacts from you?
Yes. Our in-house Optical Shop carries a diverse selection of designer, fashionable, and comfortable frames, fit by licensed opticians — call (315) 422-4412 ext. 349. Our Contact Lens Shop fits soft, hard, and specialty lenses, and we welcome prescriptions from any eye professional.
