Subspecialty Care

Uveitis, diagnosed and treated.

Uveitis is inflammation inside the eye that can lead to permanent vision loss if untreated.

Uveitis refers to inflammation of the uvea — the middle layer of the eye that includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. It can affect one or both eyes and may be associated with systemic autoimmune or infectious disease.

Symptoms to watch for

  • Eye redness and pain
  • Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
  • Blurred or decreased vision
  • Floaters

If you experience these symptoms, prompt evaluation is important to prevent complications.

How we treat it

Treatment depends on the type and underlying cause. Most patients are managed with topical, injected, or oral anti-inflammatory medications. Severe or chronic cases may require coordination with rheumatology or infectious disease specialists.

Our team works closely with other physicians to identify any underlying systemic condition and to keep your eyes healthy long-term. If you've been diagnosed with uveitis, please call our Syracuse office at (315) 422-4412 to schedule.
